Moving on
“I thought we would have to close the school. I have a strong connection to Aurora Christian Academy; I was a student there, taught there, and as Pastor I enjoy visiting with the staff and kids and helping where needed.”
Brother Bob has a heart for children and believes that the need is now greater than ever to provide high quality Christian education. When Principal Chris Haynes shared his plan to start a new independent Christian school, he was fully supportive. The school, Oakwood, will be in a better position to access funding to grow and help meet the need for education in the area. However, the future of ACA seemed uncertain. “All it takes is one person,” Bro Bob told a friend. The next day, a parent reached out to him and offered to help work out a plan to keep ACA going.
There will be school at ACA, keeping the strong faith-based relationship-driven approach. It will take faith and trust and cooperation from parents and the community. The plan is to start small and explore the strengths to be found in flexibility. A hybrid model is being explored along with a project-based learning concept. One avenue that will be pursued is the opportunity to provide support for the homeschool community, hoping to form a cooperative.
The daycare helps meet a huge need for our community and will be a central part of the plan for the school as we move forward.
